Veteran section
12/12/08 at 18:47:59

Hi all,

No offence intended to new members here but does anyone else from the old crowd get fed up with seeing the same old questions coming around again and again on the forum. I find myself spending less time on melanotan.org because most of the stuff that comes out is just a repeat of the same arguments from those who don't realise that it's been covered before. Plus there seems to be a big, 'new wave' of folks at the moment following the news reports. What about a veterans section for those who've been a member for a couple of years? In this we would aim to discuss topics to advance melanotan knowledge rather than just repeat it. I hope this doesn't come across as elitist or discriminatory because everyone would have access to the section eventually? Any thoughts here?

How would you envision it being setup?

Good idea.
Sort of "invite only".

Is it possible to make a section on this site that requires either password access, or that will only allow access to those with a two year plus membership? The other possibility is to set up an entirely new site with limited access via 'invitation only' but that would be difficult to enforce veteran status.

What about a section for folks who have at minimum 100 posts (or more) rather than the "veteran" idea?

Well OK that might work, but I can't help but think of those who have been around a long time and would contribute well to this, but maybe haven't had that many posts, like POWDER for example who was involved in the original clinical trials. In fact, come to think of it, I might not even have hit 100 yet. Is there no timewise filter function on this website?

I would prefer, if you don't exclude dedicated but relatively new users and I don't think a rigid time- or post-count-criteria will work. I'm afraid user access would have to be managed via invitations by some person who knows the boards(and users) very well.

Thanks for your comments Jacques,

I see your point but with respect, my idea was not intended to create a sense of exclusion, but rather prevention of repetitive themes and an avoidance of the constant threat hijacking and 'question based' posts that are set up by people who don't know how to search the forum properly or can't be bothered. As I mentioned before, everyone would eventually gain access to make posts on the section. What I had envisioned is a 'veteran section' that would be open to view by all, but that only certain people would have access to make or add to the posts. This is to avoid the constant 'I am new, please help', 'where do do I get this or that', 'This dose v that dose' type of posts that veterans have already dseen and read to the hilt. I'm thinking of people like Scott, Sideways, HenryPorter MSHie and so on. This is a legitimate request for me as I've found that I don't look at this forum any near as much as I used to because of all the repetitive posts that I have to trawl through to gain some new info or development. Maybe Scott could manage an invite system? Also, in my system anyone could PM a veteran with a legit comment which they could quote on the thread if they choose to.

Darkhorse, you might have slightly misunderstood me(or I failed at making my point properly). I agree that a "veteran" section could be a good idea. I've noticed the repetition you are talking about myself after being here for just 1-2 months.
So what I was trying to say was, that for such a veteran section, one should not rely on a rigid access criteria like post count or amount of time of being here. There will be dedicated people willing to contribute to such an area, without being around for 2 years.

This is another reason why I wish I'd signed up when I first started lurking 4 years or so back.

Good idea but if you become a veteran on the basis of the No. of posts then your just going to get a heap of garbage posts clogging up the forum and who needs that. If people read more and posted less there would be less problems.

Scott, you could set up a melanotan exam and those who pass can get access. those who fail shall be destroyed.
