Type 1; red face/neck/hands; not rosacea though

I've browsed through countless logs on this website, and while I notice many people had red undertones to their skin, it doesn't seem to be a primary problem for anyone, like it is for me.

My name is Robert. Info: 22yo, type 1 skin, Scottish ancestry, blonde hair/blue eyes, no known allergies
--Problem: my main struggle is my constant red face and neck. My hands and feet are also red (and purple in the cold), but they turn pale if I hold them in the air (above heart level). This is confusing for me because I believe my face/neck is discolored form chronic sun damage (soccer player for last 12 years in midday light with minimal sunscreen), however, if my hands and feet shared the same issue, then holding them in the air should not alleviate the redness.
--Adtnl problems: cold/sweaty hands and feet, blushing
--Aggravating factors: alcohol, extreme temps, upon exercise, sex flush, embarrassment (or anytime I am singled out; I may not be embarrassed);

I have researched constant possible vascular, neurological, and dermatological disorders, but nothing fits perfectly. I have considered early signs of rosacea, but the red hands and feet make me think otherwise; I haven't decided whether to post pics to help others view my condition.

My purpose is to find others with similar issues so that we can collaborate and start a log tracking possibilities for treatment, especially the success seen with others using melanotan. I have extreme enthusiasm for the possibility for golden tan that I can't even dream of. Good luck to everyone out there, and Scott, I'm very impressed with your administrative skills; you are keeping a steady flow of relevant info that will hopefully lead to massive success with this program. Thanks.

Have you discussed any of this with a GP? This sounds like it could possibly be a recognized medical condition to be honest with you.

I have, as well as my dermatologist; they say I just have "red undertones". No one thinks it is a problem, the sweaty palms and feet is due to overactive stimulation from sympathetic nervous system, but I use drysol to fix that.
I seem to be the only one bothered by it, but that is the case with most of us; paleness or redness (cosmetic only) is not a problem, but is it major hindrance to self-confidence.
I have made an appointment next week with another GP; I am a medical student so I am going to start utilizing the amazing resource of knowledge and specialty doctors we have in such a focused area. I'll post results later.

It sounds like you might have a hyperactive sympathetic nervous system.  Other than taking beta-blockers, there is a surgery called ETS that can help. It can also, like every other solution it seems, have side effects that are worse.  ie compensatory sweating in the torso region.  Research the ETS, it might seem drastic to your general practitoner, but you are the one that has to live with it day to day.  The beta blockers are easy and generally harmless.  They will keep your heart rate down, especially when you are put on the spot and tend to flush.  The down side to them is that they can get your blood pressure too low.

Good luck

Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, I considered it a while ago until I got the sweating under control. I will research more about the hypersympathetic nervous system, but if that were the case the redness would subside late at night when sympathetic control is minimal. In fact, it is the opposite; sympathetic innervation has a vasoconstricting affect on cutaneous vessels, which would mean I should be very pale.

Only thing I can think of is that if they are chronically overstimulated, I might have "burned out" the neurotransmitter receptors on the blood vessels, in which they no longer respond to vasconstricting signals and are in a permanent state of laxity. Good ideas though, I like it.

check out the forums at esfb channel.  personally, i am not constantly flushed but when it comes it is really intense,  to the point of complete avoidance of the triggers.  there are a few doctors that i have found that will make the claim that their ets will get rid of blushing, but the majority just use it for sweating.  there might be a slight variation in the surgeries, but basically they both are either clamping or cutting that nerve.  i priced it and had my surgery booked, but did not follow through, and i am glad. beta blockers do help alleviate some of the situational flushing though.

I know one guy from my work who has the exact same look.
His face, neck and arms are constantly red while he is very pale in nature.
I had this flushing skin tone when i first injected melanotan but that guy has it all the time.
It just doesnt look right.
Will try to ask him about it

It sounds like you are describing my body exactly. I find melanotan helps mask the redness but does not by any means get rid of it. I for some reason think it has to do with a combination of having oily skin but also hypersensitive skin.. but then again sometimes my skin will be dry after a shower in the winter. I started seeing this in myself around when i hit puberty, and the one the time i can say it was completely gone was when i was on accutane for a couple months. I have considered going back to a derm and asking for it again, but my acne is gone so I don't think it'd be easy considering most would say what we are describing as normal for someone with our skin tone. I am no doctor but I am positive it is not normal.
