Melanotan - Melenotonin - Type 2 gonadotropin
05/20/08 at 03:44:48

Just read this:

http://www.metro.co.uk/metrosexual/article.html?in_article_id=148359&in_page _id=8&ito=newsnow  (spelled gonadotropin wrong lol)

Recalled that Melanotan makes melenotonin:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&newwindow=1&suggon=0& safe=off&as_qdr=all&q=melanotan+melatonin&lr=

And seems that melenotonin makes Type 2 gonadotropin

http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&suggo n=0&safe=off&as_qdr=all&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=melatonin+Type+2+gonadotropin&spell=1

Not sure if its old news but now its clear why Melanotan effects sex drive and causes weight loss.

Hey Sam, there is a definite problem with the second reference.  Melanotan induces production of Melanin, not Melatonin.  I think the journalist accidentally used the word Melatonin in place of Melanin.  Too very different things.

The sixteen people tested participated in two Phase I tests (CUV007 and CUV009 trials). The CUV007 trial was a Phase I clinical trial done by the University of Adelaide in Australia. This clinical trial tested the drug at its plasma level and was a means of identifying whether or not the drug was safe for humans to use. This drug was tested at various locations on the body to see if the melatonin levels released were consistent, and the results were positive. No adverse reactions were reported. CUV009 attempted to show that the drug could be administered more frequently without adverse or negative reactions. The implants were tested at 16 and 28 days after implantation, and blood levels were normal for all participants. Melatonin levels increased, and no negative side effects were reported during this trial

You might be right though. Umm. For sure melanotan produces Melanin, does it also effect melatonin? Maybe not but umm let me read more.

Samdaman, you'd do well to go and read from a more authoritative source like the company itself. This is the report used by "Melanotanguide" in their rewording. Zero mention of melatonin. Melanotanguide appears to be somewhat of a misnomer.
Also from your own initial post, what is "melenotonin"?

Ya I think that there is some mis quote there for sure, nonetheless that does not mean that Melanotan is independant of gonadotropin, we all know that melanotan does have some effect on sex, the question is how and why, and the answer might well be though the melanocortin receptors. But ya I was relying upon information taht was innacurate, I just assumed that when more then one source of google hits contain the same information that not all of them are wrong but ...

As used herein, the term "MC3-R and/or MC4-R agonist" refers to any agent which is capable of interacting with and activating a melanocortin-3 and/or melanocortin-4 receptor....

More preferably, MC3-R/MC4-R agonist is an cyclic α-MSH analogue. Even more preferably, the MC3-R/MC4-R agonist is the cyclic α-MSH analogue known as melanotan II (MTU) having the amino acid sequence:

Ac-Nle-Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys-NH2 (amide bridge: Asp3-Lys8)(SEQ ID NO:2).

The present invention is based on the surprising finding that the administration of an agonist of a melanocortin receptor can restore or enhance reproductive function in animals of low body weight, particularly in such animals showing reduced gonadotropin secretion

That should be suffienct to show a link between Melanotan and gonadotripin.

And even more:

Fertility
Recent research has concluded that melatonin supplementation in perimenopausal women produces a highly significant improvement in thyroid function and gonadotropin levels, as well as restoring fertility and menstruation and preventing the depression associated with the menopause.[56] However, at the same time, some resources warn women trying to conceive not to take a melatonin supplement.[57]

But Melanotan does not produce Melatonin.....  yet both have an effect on gonadotropin levels.

Unrelated but most interesting is where melanotan II (alpha-msh) comes from:
