Clinuvel disowns Melanotan...?

I found this from the FAQs on the Clinuvel website:

'Can I already buy melanotan-1 and other such products online?

Clinuvel is aware of the unregistered products and various products offered illegally to the online audience.

These products have no resemblance or equivalence to our drug afamelanotide (CUV 1647). It may well be that the vendors make false claims, advertise with proprietary material belonging to Clinuvel, and/or use the name of the Clinuvel brand (formerly Epitan) to offer you these illegal products. Clinuvel takes no responsibility for these products and warns against the use of these, as they may pose a safety hazard and long-term risk to humans.

Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd is currently taking legal action with the help of global regulators, such as FDA, against the companies selling illegal products that may be promoted or solicited to act similar to Clinuvel's drug in development afamelanotide (CUV 1647). Clinuvel warns that the products offered on these websites may contain substances and/or ingredients that may cause long-term harm to human health.'

Back in 2005 when Clinuvel (then Epitan) decided to start calling melanotan-1 by another name they explained it thusly:

Quote:
From June 2005, Epitan chose to use EPT 1647 as the new
non-proprietary name for Epitan’s MELANOTAN

This is explained in their 2005 Annual Report.

Then when Epitan changed their name to Clinuvel they changed the name they use for melanotan-1 again from EPT 1647 to CUV 1647.

The progression is clearly spelled out in this report from Clinuvel's site:
Quote:
Continued to progress EPT 1647 (formerly Melanotan, now called CUV 1647),
towards commercialisation.

Why they don't explain this clearly is puzzling.

that webpage has been up for a long time, ironically that's where i actually found out about buying melanotan on the internet lol.

Quote Clinuvel: "These products have no resemblance or equivalence to our drug afamelanotide (CUV 1647)"

Quote Clinuvel: "Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd is currently taking legal action...against the companies selling illegal products....similar to Clinuvel's drug in development afamelanotide (CUV 1647)"

These 2 statements kinda contradict each other, why would they be taking legal action against companies if the drug bears no resemblance to their own, they are full of it.

Not in light of the middle paragraph:

' It may well be that the vendors make false claims, advertise with proprietary material belonging to Clinuvel, and/or use the name of the Clinuvel brand (formerly Epitan) to offer you these illegal products.'

Correct, if someone used the Trade Mark name they have given their form of application of melanotan-1, and/or say that it can be administered in the form they have patent on, and/or say that it can be used for the skin diseases that they say their patented version is made to correct, then they can legally take action against those companies.  In other words, don't try to claim that the melanotan-1 you are selling is the same stuff as what Clinuvel is making, use their name or afamelanotide (CUV 1647) and claim that it can cure the skin problems that Clinuvel is testing their substance for.

Also, melanotan II is a very different molecule from melanotan-1, or EPT / CUV / 1647.  This is also what they are implying.  Indeed, their statement is truly valid only for melanotan II, but not melanotan-1.
