Soclguy's trial with C. Forskolin
10/14/06 at 23:20:03

Hi all, I have been a guest on this site for sveral months and joined last week. Thanks for all your great posts and info.
I ordered melanotan II a few weeks ago and at the time it arrived this new study came out about Forskolin. Since I would be very happy with a "farmer's tan", I decided to wait until later to try the melanotan II.
Profile: Fitzpatrick type I, blond/blue, pink-white skin, mild to moderate PMLE.
Chems: Forslean Vitamin Shoppe Brand Coleus Forskolin Extract[ std to 20% forskolin 25mg] $15.00/ 60 caps.
Solvent: Ethyl alcohol 96% usp, Propylene Glycol. 70%/30%
mixture from compounding pharmacy-required an Rx. Got Rx from M.D. friend. $30.00/100ml
Prep: combined the powder from 2 caps with 10ml of solvent in a small glass bottle { cap tight, Ethanol evaporates fast], agitated by hand for one hour= cloudy coffee colored solution.
Filtered thru an unbleached coffee filter that I cut down to a very small size. I ended up with a very dark coffee colored solution approx. 8ml.
Application: Scrub area with a loofa to exfoliate then dry. I marked out two 1 in. patches on my left leg-ankle. Apply 2 drops to each area and rub in with a latex covered finger.
It's a miracle! they both turned tan immediately. True but at this point it's only stain from the deep coffee colored solution.
9-26 thru 9-27-06 apply once per day -no adverse reaction or irritation. 9-28 thru 10-10-06 apply AM & PM.
10-11-06  I prepared a new stronger solution, using 8 capsules to 10ml of solvent. 10-11-06 started a third patch above the two original. I'm applying the new solution to all three patches. I always wash the area with mild soap and water before applying. So, I'm about 17 days into it and see a color change but I don't know if it's tan or just stain. If I recall correctly in the study they said, after 2 weeks the rats began to darken and after one month they were as black as a genetic black rat. I will continue for one month and then expose 1/2 of the patch ateas to sun to see If I burn or tan. I think that will be the true test. I will post this and then follow with trying to post some pictures. Questions, comments?

Awesome, you're a hero for us all.  Thanks a million for actually doing it right, in a dedicated fashion, and documenting it for everyone.  Also, wise move to try forskolin before melanotan II in case you're someone who reacts bad to the melanotan II.  This should work, fingers crossed.

Justaguy,
Thank you for the offer to post the pictures if I e-mail them to you, but I would rather learn to do it on my own. " Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for life". I'm type I, never tanned.

Kakarot,
Thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated!

That’s it. If you can’t upload the picture for some reason you may have to crop or compress it to make it below 150kb.

The only other suggestion I have is for if you need to resize the photo to get it under 150kb. I've recommended the faststone Photo Resizer (http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm) to a lot of people. It's really easy to use, can resize entire batches in one go, and it's free. (And if, for some reason, your photo isn't in a format that's accepted here, then faststone will also convert it into a format that is)

Thanks Pseudonym, This is a new digital camera 6 megas, I never used one before. I had to downsize the picture in half it may have taken away from quality.
The first picture shows area after being washed, taken with white and pink background at window in natural light . The 2nd pic after reapplying the lotion, approximately 17 days into it.

Orally would be great, it would distribute it throughout your whole body.  Honestly, that just looks like bruises =P  I'm not sure how it would look on a large area...like a tan, or a huge bruise.

Not at all.  That looks like the real thing to me completely.  Pictures can be dificult to get an accurate idea of coloring in my experience.  You washed that thoroughly though before pictures to ensure that's not a stain right?  I'm assuming as much.  How many days til those results occurred?

Looks like some really good results, SocalGuy!  Hope it's not just a stain from the brown liquid.  So you used 8 x 25mg = 200mg of 20% Forskholin dissolved in 10ml of Ethyl Alcohol / Propylene Glycol solution, applied for 17 days in a row, without any UV exposure.  Is that a good synopsis of the test so far?  Do you know why the middle patch is the darkest of the three?

From the pic it looks like staining to me. And if its sinking into the skin the staining will last for quite a while, even if the area is washed, this makes it difficult to know where the colour is from.

Do we know the colour of the forskolin mixture used on the mice. I guess I assumed it would be pretty much clear as if you were rubbing on something that was dark brown you wouldnt be surprised if the mice became that colour. And the mice that werent given it, obviously they wouldnt turn brown. Also if it were causing staining, how would you know it wasnt this stain that was helping to block out uv radiation.

I'm not trying to put a downer on your trial, just expressing my thoughts.

What are your plans now?  Are you going to stop and see how long the tan lasts?  If so please post pics a couple of weeks out.

Your pics are awesome

Wow! Lots of comments to the photos.
1st- I'm doing spot testing, I think it's premature to think about creams and lotions to cover large areas. After 30 days I will cover 1/2 the test areas and expose the other 1/2 to some sun to see the effect if any. After 21 days in I'm beginning to suspect that this is more likely staining from the dark solution than actual changes in the skin.
I went to the web site where the researchers got their Forskolin. This is a large chemical Co. they describe their product as 98% [hplc] an off-white powder, costing $139.50 for 10mg.! So, what I expect is that what we're buying at health food stores are watered down versions of the real thing or in some cases just fakes.

I'm posting these as small posts since at times 1/2 way thru the message just disappears and have to start all over.
I'm tempted, but don"t know if I want to spend another $150.00 for the real thing.
Hoodles:
This is a very powerful herb that affects blood pressure and many other functions in the body. the skin is the largest organ in the human body. I beleive that the oral; dose required to produce results in the skin may produce major effects on blood pressure, heart and who knows what else. Dgitalis is derived from Foxglove plant, and opium and morphine from the poppy. They are are used extensively in medicine and can cure you or kill you.

Supes:
In the mice experiment- the researchers at the conclusion of the experiment would have to sacrific the mice, do skin sections, and show microscopic evidence that indeed melanin was produced in the mice skin and not just stain, to get published in a scientific journal.

Order from India.  Get the real deal at 20% in a big bag.  Buy like a kilo, which is cheap if you do it that way, and get is sent UPS to you.  Buy in pills at a supplement store and it's super expensive and who knows how long it's been sitting there losing potency.  Or, if anyone can find a tincture -- that would be great I'm assuming --  Already mixed with alcohol and well preserved.

Don't buy pure forskolin, they didn't even use that in the study and it's ludicrously expensive.

BTW, if you have to, tell them you want to buy a pound or kilo as a sample for a larger order.  But pay for your sample, they will expect it, and the courier charge.  Tell them you intend to test it yourself to check it before you order more.  That way hopefully what you get is top notch.  I would assume it would be anyway.
