Thanks Scott for sharing this information with us. I've read all of the related links you so kindly posted. Quite an ugly story of the death of a man who played a major part of the creation of melanotan-1 and Melanotan II.

I found an epitaph for Dr. Hadley written by another of the original melanotan peptide researchers, his friend, Robert Dorr.

It's a quite funny recounting of how Hadley came to understand that Melanotan II had erectile effects and also talks about an interesting way that Hadley proved to a dermatologist at a conference that his tan came from using melanotan-1 and not merely sun exposure.  
 
Search on the word, "melanotan" in the document. It's a very very good read and will likely make you laugh out loud.
 
I sure would have liked to have met the man. From what I've read of him it seems like he was such a cool guy.

Latest news on Mac's death and the man who is suspect.
Antonio Chavez was arrested only 4 days after Mac's death.  He as found with Mac's car and some of Mac's property.  He has been in jail from that time with many delays and changes of legal defense.
The last report I could find stated that, after Antonio turned down a plea bargain that would have kept him from getting the death penalty, his defense lawyer quit (or rather to say that it was agreed he could remove himself from the case) given extreme differences in how to move forward between him and Antonio.  This information is from Last month of this year.  Does anyone have any newer information on the case?
 

Chavez's trial began on Tuesday the 20th of April:

A mistrial has been declared after the jury for Chavez's trial couldn't decide whether he should be sentenced to death or not.
 
The judge has given the prosecutor until June 1 to decide if they want to reargue the penalty phase of the trial or not. If the prosecutor doesn't decide then the judge will decide if Chavez will receive a life sentence with or without the possibility of release.
